Giant Outdoor Game Day

Everyone loves games, and they’re even more fun when they're the giant variety! Here are four giant-sized games you can make for a community-wide outdoor game day!

Giant Jenga

Giant Jenga is just as fun as the original, but bigger! Use two-by-fours to create the giant Jenga logs. Sand them down and paint them in bright colors of your choice!

Find a flat surface to play on in your community and give it a go! You can also find additional Giant Jenga game assembly (and play) instructions here.

Giant Kerplunk

Have residents show off their strategy skills with this quick-play game!

Strategy, noise, and fighting gravity: Kerplunk is another game that gets even more exciting the larger it is! The Giant Kerplunk structure is simple to make: all you need is a stretch of chicken wire fencing, pliers, brightly painted dowels, some kind of stand, and plastic play balls.

Set the game up in a cool, shaded, grassy area and let residents give the game their best shot. Read over the full gameplay instructions and you can learn more about how to build your Giant Kerplunk contraption here.

Giant Yahtzee

Giant Yahtzee is just like regular Yahtzee but with much bigger dice! You'll have to work a bit harder to roll that five of a kind!

Gather up five giant bean bag dice, or make your garden dice own out of wooden blocks for some extra-large community fun. Full instructions for making your own oversized dice can be found here.

Extra Yahtzee scorecards can be purchased from the Hasbro website, or you can print and copy extra free PDF Yahtzee scorecards on your office printer/copier.

Yahtzee lends itself well to tournament play and teams, so consider getting your residents involved by setting up more competitive games!

Connect Four

Giant Connect Four is a simple game that even some of your youngest residents can play. Oversized coins will make for a memorable community game experience.

The game is easy to construct (full instructions here) but does take some cutting and assembling. It's a perfect job for both your power tools and maintenance staff.

Ordinary multiplayer games, when taken to the extreme in size and scale, are sure to be a memorable hit with community residents. Remember to snap lots of pictures to share and remember the fun day. Tuck it away for the season, and then bring everything out again the next year for another round of play!
