Resident Birthdays, What do you do?

Resident Birthday Celebrations:

What does your community do for them? Do you send out a card or a Happy Birthday from Facebook? Have any of you thought of having a random birthday party winner every month? I was visiting a social networking site recently and a girl asked for birthday present ideas for her boyfriend. One gentleman replied “the older I get the more I just want someone to acknowledge that it is my birthday.” I think there comes a time when we all feel that way.

We have been rolling this idea of a birthday club drawing where residents can submit their names to be in the club. Then, once a month, one lucky resident will receive a birthday party from the community for their birthday.

If not a randomly chosen party, maybe have some criteria that the birthday person must meet. For example: a birthday party for the resident who has lived in your community the longest…with something like “Happy Birthday, Jane” as a banner on your community’s fence. To be honest, this idea came to me while reading Lawrence Berry’s Discussion post on MFI! He talked about a great way to show some appreciation for a resident who’d lived in the same community for 20 years.

Alternatively, we considered just having one birthday party per month for all the residents whose birthdays fall within that month. I’m afraid this might get too routine and not attract too many residents out for a party every month.

Feel free to do all the corny things associated with a birthday at your party! Cake and Ice cream are a must but you might also consider a piñata for the kids, Pin the Tail on the Donkey, hire a clown, birthday hats, and all kinds of balloons!

So, what do you do for your resident’s to let them know you remembered their special day?
