All American Fun Day Hot
Depending on your pool area, it is idea to set up two long tables on either side of a covered patio so they are facing each other with space in between for residents to pass through. Cover each with a blue table covering, and drape a large $1 American Flag from the Dollar Store on each as a center piece. On table #1, you will have an Apple Pie bar and fresh cut watermelon, and on table #2 will be All-American snacks.
• Table #1: Sam's and Costco (as well as other supermarkets) sell large apple turnovers in the bakery section throughout the summer. They are large enough to cut into halves or thirds. Neatly arrange apple turnover halves on a large platter. Next to it, place a clear bowl filled with ice, and several canisters of spray whipped cream topping. Be sure to set out small paper bowls and forks. at the other end of the table, have a large platter of seedless watermelon, cut into small, thin triangles. If you slice them correctly, 1 average sized seedless watermelon can make more than 100 slices!
• Table #2: Have a large basket lined with red/white checkered towel, and fill it with individual bags of potato chips. Next to that, have a large bowl also lined with a festive towel, and fill it with fresh popped kettle corn (you can buy it from the dollar store and pop it in the microwave). Be sure to have a stack of 8 or 9 oz short, plastic cups to be used for the popcorn.
• Drinks: Large cooler filled with ice and small bottled waters.
• Fun, extra idea: Hand out popsicles in the middle of the event! Store them in the clubhouse freezer, and halfway through the event, walk around and hand them out.
Now that the food is covered, in order for this to be a "Fun Day", you'll want to buy several poolside items from the dollar store such as beach balls, noodles, hula hoops, fun sunglasses for kids, bubbles, etc. Have a large basket or festive tub filled with these items for kids to choose from. Also plan to buy a couple of sunscreen containers to have on hand for residents.
