Back to school Trivia Deluxe
This does require some work beforehand. You'll need to pick up one of those trivia books from the book store, or look up kids trivia on line. A bit different than the typical game show. You set up 2 teams of all aged people and children. You have questions on various topics such as, "who is the secretary of state?", "what is the definition of an island", age appropriate for the contestant. Give each team a 'noise maker' of different sounds and start the trivia. You get the idea.. we did this and the winner recieved $50 off their rent for his/her mom!! THey loved it. We actually did it outside by the pool and drew a crowd!!

Sundae School!
A "Back to School Party" is a great way to encourage students to reconnect with friends and to allow returning students to overcome back to school jitters.

Oreo Stacking Contest
He who stacks the highest wins!  Have the contest in your community center with tables set up for contestants to utilize for their stacks.  Allow anyone to participate with a prize for the winner.  Have residents stack up Oreo Cookies and whoever has the highest stack, without it toppling over, wins!  You can couple this with another event or it can "stand on it's own.  Have fun with it and think of creative ways to make it more interesting...such as differing categories: One group who stack using only the insides of the Oreos and one top and one bottom; One group who stack Oreos on top of each other; and maybe one group who don't have to stack straight up but can create sculptures out of the Oreos.  Have fun and get to know your residents during the event!!

Child Registration with Police
I remember way back when I was a kid, my mom took me to a Girl Scout event where I was registered with the local police.  While we were there, the officers also gave a nice little talk about bike safety and how to follow traffic laws while cycling.  Some of those tips stayed with me and helped on the written portion of my driving test.  This is a great event to hold in your community! Officers come out and register kids and you might also want to have the fire department come and share fire safety with them as well.  Serve hot dogs and cotton candy to entice residents to participate!  This could be a great summer event while also being very beneficial to your community by educating your younger residents about how to play safe!
